Israels & Neuman, PLC Continues to Look Into John Timberlake, Formerly of Suntrust Investment Services and Carter, Terry & Company
Have you lost money with financial advisor John H. Timberlake (CRD# 2109445), formerly of Suntrust Investment Services and Carter, Terry & Company, in Atlanta, Georgia? We are continuing to look into allegations against John Timberlake. FINRA (the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) recently suspended John Timberlake for four months and fined him $10,000. FINRA alleged that Timberlake used unapproved texts to communicate with customers and made exaggerated, false, and misleading representations in those texts.
John Timberlake’s BrokerCheck report, a public record maintained by FINRA, states that Timberlake has been the subject of four customer complaints since 2016. The customers allege unsuitable investment recommendations in stocks, including thinly traded stocks or penny stocks. One customer made allegations regarding investments in Empire Resorts (symbol NYNY). Empire Resorts trades on NASDAQ and had a 1 to 5 reverse split in late 2015.
John Timberlake was a registered representative of Suntrust Investment Services from September 2013 to April 2016. He was also with Carter, Terry & Company from July 2016 to May 2020. Timberlake was fired by Carter, Terry & Company in May 2020.
Brokerage firms like Suntrust Investment Services have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm. Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.
