Investigation: John Schmidt and Wells Fargo

Cory Williams, formerly of Taylor Capital Management, Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

Cory Ryan Williams of Mesa, Arizona was just sentenced to seven years in prison.   The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona in Phoenix alleged that Cory Williams was running a Ponzi scheme.  Williams, who is from Gilbert, Arizona, was alleged to have raised $13 million from investors and misrepresented how the money was used.  Authorities alleged that Williams used investor funds on a $59,000 ring for his wife, a $60,000 truck, $87,000 in donations to the Church of Latter Day Saints, and vacations to California and Hawaii.

Williams was previously the subject of a complaint by the Arizona Corporation Commission.  Arizona alleged that Williams raised $13 million from 40 investors between March 2014 and November 2016 to invest in a pooled investment vehicle trading in E-Mini S&P 500 futures.  Williams lost $8 million through this trading but instead told investors that they were making a profit, and he also used $800,000 for personal use.  Arizona seeks to bar Williams from the securities industry.

Cory Williams was a financial advisor and registered representative of Taylor Capital Management from May 2011 to November 2015.  He worked at a branch office in Mesa, Arizona and lived in Gilbert.  Williams also operated a company called Williams Advisory Group.
