News Update: James McKinney of Cetera Advisors in Tulsa, OK

James McKinney, formerly with Cetera Advisors, Barred by FINRA

Have you lost money with financial advisor James McKinney?  We are continuing to look into allegations made about James Gregory or “Greg” McKinney from Tulsa, Oklahoma.  In November 2019, FINRA (the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) sought to bar McKinney from the securities industry.  FINRA alleges that McKinney has failed to respond to its investigation, regarding allegations that he possibly violated FINRA rules.  In February 2020, FINRA instituted the bar after the continued failure by McKinney to respond to the investigation.

Greg McKinney was a financial advisor and registered representative of Cetera Advisors from October 2012 to August 2019.  He worked in a branch office in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  McKinney has been the subject of three customer complaints and three liens.  McKinney also worked with Professional Asset Management of Tulsa.

Brokerage firms like Cetera Advisors have a responsibility to adequately supervise all representatives who are registered through their firm.  Brokerage firms also must take steps to ensure that their financial advisors follow all securities rules and regulations, as well as internal firm policies.  When brokerage firms fail to adequately supervise their registered representatives, they may be liable for investment losses sustained by customers.
